LET’S start with the basics. SKIN TYPES!
Most people actually do NOT know their skin type and thus do not know which products will actually work for them or not. Read ahead to find out WHAT your skin type is!
There are 5 main skin types, and if your skincare isn’t working for you, one of the reasons may be, that you’ve got your skin type all wrong! Let’s break it down:
1) NORMAL SKIN TYPE:
This I personally believe, is the holy grail of skin types. It requires minimum upkeep and is characterised by
BARELY visible pores
Minimal redness or blemishes after trying new products
Not too oily, not too tight
Smooth texture, clear skin
2) OILY SKIN:
This skin type require a little more upkeep to keep the skin barrier healthy and clean. It’s characterised by
Visible, relatively enlarged pores
Prone to break outs
Face looks shiny, especially the T zone (forehead, nose, chin)
3) DRY SKIN:
There are many misconceptions about dry skin in the market, which we will talk about in our next blog post in detail. But for now, it’s characterised by
Feels tight after washing your face
If you pinch your skin together, you’ll see fine wrinkles
Feels dry or itchy, and with seasonal change it can also get slightly flaky
Stings when applying new products
Prone to break outs because of a mismanage skin barrier
4) COMBINATION:
This is the skin type we encounter the most, because it can get confusing to manage. It’s characterised by
There are dry areas which can be flaky and other which are super oily and have active break outs
T zone is usually oily (forehead, nose, chin)
Shiny T zone
Affected by seasonal and hormonal changes
5) SENSITIVE SKIN:
This is a skin type many people think they have, but they really do not. It has very specific features like:
Visible redness or small bumps after starting new skincare or any new product
Allergy prone
Dry patches
Skin easily flushes
These are the absolute basics that we are beginning with here, so if you already know a lot of this information, that’s great! It means we are even closer to our Good Skin journey! In the upcoming posts we will go into a bit of detail of which products are better for each skin type. So stay tuned!
